    Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use Clean&Safe® instead of canvas drop cloths, rosin paper or plastic drop cloths?

Clean&Safe® offers a combination of benefits not found with other surface protection products. The skid-resistance of Clean&Safe® provides jobsite security to both you and your customers. Because it is absorbent, leak-proof and lightweight, not only can you count on Clean&Safe® to supply effective tile and hardwood floor protection, stair protection and carpet protection – it is also a safe and easy solution for protecting any surface during your project, including cabinetry, countertops and more. Clean&Safe® is also reusable, making it both economical and eco-friendly.

How long can I leave Clean&Safe® down?

Clean&Safe® is safe for all existing surfaces for the duration of the job.  Since there is no adhesive on the backing you do not have to be concerned with residue transfer.  If the floor is continuing to dry and/or cure it is best to use SurfacePro®, our breathable surface protection.

How can I increase my profit by using Clean&Safe®?

Less Prep Work = Lower Labor Costs

    • Clean&Safe® is lightweight, flexible and reverse-wound making it quick and easy to roll out. Plus, it doesn’t require taping – it lays flat and will not slip on a surface or on itself when pressure is applied.

Skid-Resistant Backing = Fewer Accidents = Lower Workman’s Comp Expenses

    • Clean&Safe’s® skid-resistant backing helps prevent accidental slips and falls. It protects your flooring surface from scratches from ladders and tools while providing a safe footing.

Absorbent Top Layer + Leak-Proof Backing = Easy Clean-up of Spills Fewer Repair Costs

    • Accidents can and will happen on a jobsite. Clean&Safe® provides an extra layer of protection giving you and the homeowner peace of mind.

    Reusable = Lower Supply Costs

    • Our surface protection products are very durable and can be used over and over. The life of Clean&Safe® will depend on the job and your personal preferences. To make a one-time use more economical, consider pricing it into the quote and leaving it behind for your customer to use as floor protection while moving furniture back in after a project, or as an all-purpose drop cloth.

Can I use Clean&Safe® for Stair Protection?

Clean&Safe® is an excellent way to protect stairs!  You can simply tuck the runner on each stair tread or secure the runner by stapling it under the nose of each tread. Another option is to place a small dowel where the riser and tread meet and secure it with finishing nails.

How can I use Clean&Safe® for Carpet Protection?

To protect low pile carpet use Clean&Safe® as you would for any other hard floor protection.  For plush carpet, use a double layer of Clean&Safe® with the plastic sides together, leaving one layer of fibers on top for absorbency and one layer of fibers on the bottom to grip the carpet.  When the job is complete, separate the two drop cloths and continue to use Clean&Safe® as a single layer surface protection.

Do I need to tape Clean&Safe® down the way I do other surface protection products?

No!  Because it lays flat and will not slip, there is generally no need to tape Clean&Safe®.  For covering wider areas, simply join two or more sections with an overlap of 3 to 5 inches to establish an overlapping seam – Clean&Safe® will not slide on itself when weight is applied.  Although taping is not required, you may still want to secure the seams – simply tape the seams on the top of the product with masking tape or painter’s tape.  When your job is complete, just remove the tape and continue to use Clean&Safe® as a temporary floor protection runner.

Can I use Clean&Safe® on surfaces other than floors?

YES! In addition to providing excellent floor, stair, and carpet protection, Clean&Safe® protects countertops, bathtubs, cabinets, furniture, fixtures and much more! It comes in a variety of sizes to meet your specific surface protection needs. The 32” wide roll is ideal for stair protection, hallway runners or counter top protection; the 40” wide rolls will cover a larger area in no time. We also offer boxed pre-cut Clean&Safe® drop cloths in widths up to 80” if you’re looking for the coverage area that traditional painter’s drop cloths usually provide.

What makes Clean&Safe® a Green Product?

Clean&Safe® is manufactured using post-consumer recycled fibers, making it a wonderful green alternative to other surface and floor protection products.  Also, unlike many other surface protection products, Clean&Safe® is reusable. Because of its durability, it needs to be replaced far less often than other floor protection products. When Clean&Safe® finally begins to wear out and nears the end of its life it can be used for demolition projects and other messy jobs and then disposed of properly. All these factors lead to decreased jobsite waste and reduced environmental impact.

    Should I use Clean&Safe®, Clean&Safe®Pro or SurfacePro®?

Clean&Safe® and Clean&Safe®Pro are the most effective and economical solutions for all surfaces that do not need to dry or cure.  They are great multi-purpose drop cloths that offer leak-proof surface protection.  In addition, Clean&Safe®Pro can be broom cleaned or vacuumed, making clean-up even easier!  If you need to protect newly finished hardwood floors, stone, or tile you should use SurfacePro®, our breathable surface protection which will allow the floors to cure while you are working.  SurfacePro® is also the best surface protection solution when you are working in a humid or non-climate controlled site as it will allow the moisture to escape.

What is the best way to get Clean&Safe® clean during or after a job?

Clean&Safe® may be lightly vacuumed, rinsed off, or simply shaken out.

    How much does it cost?

In comparison to other surface protection products, Clean&Safe® is priced very competitively when all its benefits and attributes are considered.  The delivered cost of Clean&Safe® begins at about 32 cents per square foot.

“We use primarily Clean&Safe®, with some Clean&Safe®Pro. The anti-slip film on the back is wonderful and the fact that it lays down very flat makes it a very suitable surface protection to leave in place for extended periods.  We leave our surface protection in place from start to finish on most renovations which can last months.Designer Builders using Clean&Safe with MDF for Stair Protection

We have been using a system to protect hardwood stairs which involves placing the Clean&Safe® runner on the stair, top to bottom.  Then we have made tread covers from ½” MDF with a rounded edge to lay on top of the Clean&Safe runner.  The MDF serves as a stabilizer to help hold the runner in place and also gives added protection.  The Clean&Safe® serves to protect both the tread and the riser.  It has worked flawlessly!  We have left these in place for months with the homeowner using it daily as well.”

“Our guys are trained to be as clean as possible, so the first thing they do is roll out the Clean&Safe® or SurfacePro®, then we put up our tents and dust barrier. We use the SurfacePro® a lot – it doesn’t slide, you just roll it out and cut it. It’s impact resistant like paper board but it’s easier to install. You can vacuum it, sweep it – it’s one of the best floor protection products on the market that we’ve used. And we use the Clean&Safe® for runners in hallways. I’ve had good feedback from my customers, they say that it doesn’t slide anywhere, they can walk over it with no problems – they were impressed. “There are three reasons we use Clean&Safe® and SurfacePro®:

    • First is safety – particularly when working on wood floors, we are assured of no ladder slippage.
    • Secondly, is maximum protection – from scaffold wheels to spillage.
    • Third, is customer satisfaction. No matter how good the paint job, that spill or scratch will always be the first item remembered. A happy customer is a returning customer!”

“We have had nothing but good comments from our techs using Clean&Safe®! The tarps do not slide out from underneath when using it on stairs. Appliance cart use does not affect the tarp. It provides excellent protection of the customer’s property, and it shows that the company has respect for their property.”

    Testimonials

Customers really appreciate it when they see you treating their house with utmost respect, and a product like this really shows that. I pride myself in keeping their project clean, neat and orderly. I used Clean&Safe®Pro a few times but didn’t have much to talk about until I used it on my own project. I left your product on my stairs for literally a year during our renovation. My stairs were perfectly unscathed from me, my family and the other contractors that worked on the addition.Ray Valois JLC 2016Valois stair runner 2

I like the durability, the ease of use, the low-slip backer, and the ability to sweep it up and use it again. I like using it for stairs, and especially using it as the initial runner coming in from outside. If it’s raining outside or something, it gives you a good area to wipe your feet. I cut it to make my own welcome mats, and then lay the runner out across their tile floor or hardwood floor to where we’re working. It’s great that we’re able to reuse it whenever possible. I took an entire roll to a high-end trim job; I kicked out the roll every day as a runner through the house to where we were working, and then rolled it back up every day.

Clients do appreciate the additional effort that any contractor puts into cleanliness of the jobsite, and very much the inside of the house. It speaks to the quality of work and the professionalism you put forth when you use products like this; it separates you from other people they’ve worked with in the past.

I have not purchased your great materials in several years, but have been using old pieces and remnant rolls for the work I am doing. It continues to amaze clients when the first thing we do is to cover their floors/stairs, or use SurfacePro layers between their stacked furniture (if needed), etc. When heavy duty demo is being done, we place a layer of 1/4″ masonite on top of the SurfacePro. I have told our crew for years: “It costs $100 to cover and protect or a $1000 to repair and clean up….and that never fails!” Thank you for keeping our butts out of hot water!!

“We are in the home remodeling business, and dust/property protection is a huge concern for us. We found your product to be far more durable, and less prone to damage than similar products we’ve used in the past. You will be hearing from us often.”
